BEN HOUGHTON

At BBC Radio 5 Live, I work as Broadcast Assistant and Broadcast Journalist on 5 Live Breakfast.

A series focusing on the local community stories affected by the national HS2 project.

Along with four other fellow students, I presented a weekly one hour radio programme on the student station Shock Radio. Alongside music, the show includes various features such as Dan Vs Ben, Alastair's Pick of The Week, and AUX Takeover.

The programme won Best Entertainment at the Shock Radio Awards 2019 and nominated for multiple SRA Awards.

At Salford Now, I also worked as Radio Editor, responsible for producing news programmes for the Salford area, and leading a team of reporters & presenters.

We set a challenge to visit every stop on the Greater Manchester tram network in record time. Coverage of the challenge was provided on social media and live on Shock Radio. The challenge was featured in the Manchester Evening News.

During my time at the Salford Now, I worked as a producer, reporter, director and studio manager, providing local news coverage to the Salford area.

As part of The Monday Mix,we set ourselves the task of rowing for fifteen hours each overnight whilst on air. The event was all in aid of Comic Relief and managed to raise £750.
